Palo Alto County is located in northwestern Iowa. It is named for the Battle of Palo Alto.
The seat and largest city are both Emmetsburg. The Des Moines River flows through the county.
Palo Alto County borders Emmet, Kossuth, Pocahontas and Clay Counties.
Main highways include US-18, IA-4 and IA-15.
